Although Verbier is primarily famous for its winter sports of sking and snowboarding, the summer in Verbier is its own unique experience. The beautiful Alpine backdrop with stunning mountains, distant glaciers and the green valley below create the perfect setting for a number of events here in Verbier and the surrounding area over the Summer months of July and August.
From the Verbier Music Festival to the Bike Fest, there is something for everyone visiting Verbier during the Summer months.
Montreux Jazz Festival
Located just over an hours drive from Verbier, and one of the landmark events of the Summer in Switzerland, the Montreux Jazz festival is a world-renowned music festival that takes place annually in the first half of July for two weeks. Verbier is the perfect location from which to explore this amazing event, whether it’s to see a concert in the evening or while away the sunny afternoons listening to jazz by the lake.
Founded in 1967, the event draws more than 250,000 visitors per year and hosts three ticketed venues as well as numerous free events including an open-air stage and various after-show events. The atmosphere is electric with festival-goers teeming along the sunny lake-front promenade which is lined with music and a rich variety of food stands and stalls.
Although the event has stayed true to its roots with jazz and blues at its centre, other styles of music have found their place as well, with historic performances by artists such Nina Simone, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Marvin Gaye, Prince, Leonard Cohen, David Bowie, and Stevie Wonder.
The Verbier Music Festival
Located in Verbier, this classical music festival delivers 17 days world-class musical performances each year, from Mid-July through to early August.
The programme of the Festival extends from day-time events such as open-air concerts, day performances, masterclasses as well as day and evening concerts. A wide range of learning activities for young professional musicians from the Verbier Academy to the Verbier Festival Youth Orchestra completes the Verbier Festival experience. Jumping International de Verbier
Next on the summer line up is the “Jumping International de Verbier”. This week-long show jumping event normally takes place in Mid-late August each year, and features some of the greatest riders from Europe! Entrance is free, and whether you ride yourself or prefer just to watch, the spectacular scenery provides a great backdrop for this equestrian show!
Verbier Bike Fest
A recent addition the the Verbier summer events list with its launch in 2013, the bike fest has proved to be very popular with locals and guests alike! This event is free to attend, and normally runs in the first weekend of September, and 2015 and is hosted in an impressive covered tent with bars and food stalls and entertainment including concerts, stunt displays and of course, lots of motorbikes!
