International Summer Camps – English Language Teacher / Evening Activity Leader

Abi is an Irish/South African, who grew up in Durban, South Africa, and began working in Verbier in 2014. This Summer she is going to be working for Altitude as an English teacher on our Language camps, as well as an evening activity leader. Abi absolutely loves working with children and living in such a beautiful mountain environment. “Verbier has an endless list of things to love – there is so much to see and do! The beautiful hiking trails, ski pistes in Winter, places to rock climb, sports facilities and lakes are just a few of the incredible things Verbier has to offer.”

Abi is a qualified TEFL/TESOL international English teacher and is currently studying towards a BA (Hons) Graphic Design degree, through the University of Hertfordshire through their distance learning programme while she lives and works in Switzerland. She also has lots of experience to bring to camp having worked with children of all ages in her previous positions as a snowboard instructor, camp activity leader, as well as in childcare positions.  She has also worked as part of a team managing and putting together a Girls Freestyle Snowboard Camp, at a ski resort in the Lesotho mountains, Africa; as well as, a race co-ordinator and trail planner for the National Enduro Motorbike Races in South Africa.

When she’s not working, Abi has many hobbies, and Verbier is the perfect environment for all of them! “I love snowboarding during the Winter, and am learning to ski. I am looking forward to skateboarding, hiking and rock climbing during the Summer! My other hobbies are photography, art and writing.”

Abi speaks English as her native language as well as Afrikaans (similar to Dutch), and is currently learning and working towards eventually receiving a C1 asset languages certification in French.

This Summer, Abi is most looking forward to running the activities and games, as an Evening Activity Leader. “I can’t wait for evening hikes, camp fire nights, bowling, Escape Rooms, and ALL of the other exciting activities and games! I love teaching, and am also incredibly excited to teach English. It is always rewarding to meet and work with children from all over the world.”
