We also have relationships with the best hotels in Verbier. For those who prefer a hotel service and facilities, the W Hotel Verbier is a great option for the whole family offering amazing facilities and service to match. Offering a 4* service include the Hotel Cordee des Alpes, Hotel Vanessa and more.

Verbier is a fantastic place to make sure the family get outdoors and active during your time away. Most families choose to book their kids into day camp during their stay available for children from 3-14 years, and then also choose additional activities for older teenagers and adults during their stay and at weekends. We’ve put together some suggestions of the most popular activities to do whilst in Verbier.

Another for the adventurous family, via ferrata translates as the ‘iron path’ and is a protected climbing route, with metal hand and footholds, bridges and other fixed points provided to assist the climber, as well as a steel cable for protection. The routes come in different grades, from easy to extremely difficult, require a harness and specific via ferrata set, as well as a helmet and gloves (optional).

This can be great fun especially for older children and sporty adults with an adventurous side, or for those familiar with outdoor climbing or via ferratas already. A great one to try is located at Gentianes in Verbier, where full equipment hire and a guide is available for those with less experience (in poor weather conditions the route is closed); trust us the views are incredible on a clear day! There are two routes, one easier and one more difficult, so you can start easy and see how you go!

Brand new for summer 2020, Verbier has installed another adrenaline-fuelled activity at the top of it’s Mont Fort mountain, located at 3330m. At the time of writing, this makes the zip line the highest in the world, and the longest in Europe at 4km long.

One for all the family, children as young as 7 years old can ride the zip line and it’s a great experience not to be missed. Breathtaking views are included, and you can combine your day with a hike or lunch up the mountain. Best booked in advance, we can let you know all the details!

Verbier is a fantastic base for hiking, both in the immediate area and the surrounding mountains. When staying in Verbier, tourists qualify for a Verbier Infinite Playground or VIP pass enabling you free access to Verbier’s mountain lift system so you can access family friendly walks up the mountain with incredible views.

There are a range of mountain restaurants meaning you can soak up the sun, enjoy lunch or a cold drink, before heading back down by foot or on the lifts.

A glorious activity for a morning or afternoon, Verbier Summits offer a unique tandem paragliding experience here in the heart of the alps. Breathtaking views are guaranteed, no experience is required, and a qualified and experienced guide will take you on a tandem paragliding adventure, with photos for an additional fee to take away and show off to your friends.

Slots must be booked in advance and may be postponed due to weather, so don’t leave it until the last day of your trip!

Swimming

For a family friendly option on a hot summer’s day, Verbier’s outdoor pool is a fantastic option for those with children of all ages, and adults love it too! Located at the Centre du Sportif in the centre of town, there is a volleyball court, playground, diving boards and plenty of space to relax. Entry is free with the VIP pass.

For locals and tourists alike, there’s also nothing better than a dip in one of Switzerland’s beautiful mountain lakes to cool off on a hot day. A popular summer destination in Switzerland, Lake Geneva is an hour’s drive away and Switzerland’s biggest summer playground. One of the largest lakes in Western Europe and with shores in both Switzerland and France, it almost feels like a day at the beach. Once the waters are warmed up in early summer the temperature is delightful, and kids will love jumping off the pontoons and swimming.

Another great option is Lac des Iles, very popular among the locals, this is around a 45-minute drive toward the town of Sion and has a great swimming lake as well as a fantastic restaurant, high ropes course, kids train and other activities for the whole family.

Climbing

Verbier has a great indoor climbing wall built only a few years ago as part of its sports centre, ideal for those looking to give climbing a try for the first time, though we always recommend getting an Altitude instructor in that case. There is also a small bouldering section, and auto-belays for those without experience, as well as hire for shoes and harnesses for an additional fee.

For experienced climbers, there are numerous bolted routes in Verbier and the surrounding areas, but we would recommend taking a mountain guide if you are not confident in your ability. For experienced outdoor sport climbers, La Barme is Verbier’s most accessible climbing spot with bolted routes, or there are many other options located within a 30-60 minute drive.

Getting to Verbier

We can arrange your stay right from arrival in Geneva, where airport transfers are available from CHF 550 one way.

Another option, especially for those with older children, is to take the train and enjoy a beautiful scenic trip around the shores of Lake Geneva and up into the mountains. The train is direct from Geneva to Martigny, where you change to the local route which takes you all the way to Le Chable, the town at the bottom of Verbier. From here you can take the bus, gondola or a taxi up to Verbier.

Alternatively, you could choose to hire a car at Geneva airport which you can then make the most of during your stay to explore the surrounding area. If you do this, remember to request parking at your accommodation.

Other activities

For a day or two off the bike, there are many more activities that can be enjoyed during a trip to Verbier. Enjoy a spa day and massage to rejuvenate those weary muscles, or a trip to the outdoor pool for a swim and day to relax in the sun or try one of the fantastic local restaurants and enjoy some sundowners on one of the many bar terraces in town. If you’re wanting to stay active, the local sports center offers a climbing wall, tennis and squash courts too, or simply pack a picnic and head into the mountains to soak up the views and explore the local hiking trails.
